Mixed Use
Cape Town Station 2030
CLIENT: | Intersite |
VALUE: | Multibillion Rand |
ROLE: | Leaders of Multidisciplinary Technical Team |
This multibillion rand urban regeneration development project, set to be the biggest in Africa, proposes to radically change the face of Cape Town.
There is a need to provide public transport that serves passenger demand and to increase that demand. The development therefore has to make the transport solution more cost effective and less reliant on subsidies. Cape Town Station is part of the initial strategy to roll this out by creating a live/work/play corridor of developments.
At the heart of the proposal is the redesign of the rail network between the Cape Town and the Salt River Stations that will free up about three million square metres of land for a four-precinct mixed use development.
The proposed areas include a mixed neighbourhood, a cultural precinct for tourists with museums, a memorial park, boutique hotels and an innovation and technological research education centre.
Target Projects' key role was to head up the multidisciplinary team to create a development concept plan that is both feasible and sustainable. This role included overseeing various experts from economists to rail authorities to normal built environment professionals.
